Kevin Burke is a famed fiddler and a founder of the renowned Patrick Street, as well as the legendary Bothy Band, one of the most influential Irish groups of the 1970s.
Born in London to parents from Sligo, Ireland, Burke grew up playing fiddle in the traditional style, though he notes that his music is a composite; “The old Sligo players provided the building blocks but I’ve borrowed bits and pieces from all sorts of musicians along the way.” Burke first came to America as a result of a chance meeting with Arlo Guthrie, which brought him to the US to play on Arlo’s album, Last Of The Brooklyn Cowboys.
The newest addition to Patrick Street, Ged Foley, is a superb guitarist, singer, and player of both the fiddle and the Northumbrian smallpipes. Born in County Durham in the North East of England. Ged (pronounced “Jed”) was a one-time member of Scotland’s The Battlefield Band and is a founding member of The House Band. Their performance for Bluemont will be a rare treat for all.
