Black Sheep is a five-member band based out of Washington DC that pushes reggae’s frontiers through jazz and rhythm and blues, bringing American musical flavors to reggae’s African rhythms.
The group’s music is unique in its positive message dealing with real issues of ecology, urban violence, drugs and racial accord. As its name implies, it is music made by outsiders for outsiders. Together for more than twenty years and winners of multiple WAMMIE awards (Washington Area Music Association), Black Sheep keeps its music fresh with innovative harmonies and a fusion of diverse influences. Band members are Moata Kenyatta on bass guitar, Isa Abdullah on keyboards and vocals, Abasi Johnson on percussion, Dontez Harris on saxophone and flute, and Baron Tymas on guitar.
