The Virginia Opera is a leader in the field of opera performance. Proclaimed the "Official Opera of the Commonwealth of Virginia" by the General Assembly in 1994, the Virginia Opera is respected throughout the state for successfully introducing opera to more than 185,000 students annually.

The Opera Season includes a variety of exciting and educational productions for students. Each performance is fully staged with professional singers, sets, costumes, and accompanied by piano. Interactive segments between the performers and the students successfully draw students into the magical world of opera.

An Evening of Opera and Broadway (All Ages) Sung by world class young artists, An Evening of Opera and Broadway features soaring opera arias and your favorite Broadway melodies from the worlds greatest composers. This concert program will add a special touch of elegance and excitement to any evening or event and is an excellent choice for all community groups, theatres, and colleges. You will leave this event soaring. Available September 2013 through May 2014.

Encore! (6-12) Introduce your students to the beauty of music with this entertaining program that features popular opera arias and favorite Broadway melodies. Our artists will introduce, demonstrate and explain the fundamentals of opera while at the same time putting on a performance that will leave your students shouting "Encore!" Available September 2013 through May 2014.

Jack and the Beanstalk (K-5) Students and educators will love this operatic version of the beloved fable Jack and the Beanstalk, based on scenes from the operattas of Sir Arthur Sullivan. This classic tale exposes students to the art form of opera while emphasizing respect and consideration for others. Available September 2013 through December 2013.

The Adventures of Pinnochio's Sister (K-5) This educational show follows the journey of Pinocchietta as she meets many madcap opera characters which teach her about opera, singing, language and culture. This comic opera program includes music from some of the great opera composers and some very funny and familiar characters. Learn how to be an opera star in this fun filled participatory and educational experience. Available January 2014 - May 2014.
