Seona McDowell is a citizen of the world, born in India of Irish-English parents and raised in New Zealand and later Australia. Winner of the OZ Music Award, her educational and entertaining musical performances delight audiences of all ages. Accompanying herself on guitar and autoharp, Seona's traditional and original music reflects life in the "Land Down Under" as well as her humanitarian and ecological beliefs. Her school programs and residencies are age appropriate and packed with audience participation, learning and humor.
Australia, the Land Down Under (K-12) is a musical trip to Australia. Students discover the early pioneers, Aboriginal natives and their instruments (Seona plays the dijeredoo), famous outlaws, indigenous animals, and the culture of the "Aussies" through traditional, contemporary, and original music.
Celebrate the Season (K-5) A presentation of the various celebrations of the season of giving and peace, and ethnic ceremonies by families throughout the world. Students learn songs and stories from around the world by singing and dancing with Seona.
Citizens of the World (K-8) With songs and stories, celebrates the differences and similarities of culture throughout the world. This program shows that through travel and immigration, people have incorporated one another's traditions and accepted them as their own.
Classroom Workshops and Residencies (K-12) Designed to offer more individualized participation on topics such as songwriting, folksongs as they pertain to literature and historical events, the art of making homemade instruments (Australian Bush Band Instruments) and folkdancing. Students will actually write, perform, record and critique their own work to experience the creative process first hand. An optional Free Concert for parents is offered. Classes are adapted to suit respective ages of students.
Erin Go Bragh (K-12) A fun filled experience that provides insight into the Irish life and character through music and dance. Filled with blarney, humor, literature, music and dance, this program lets the audience kick up their heels.
